War Birds over the Bay Print

Burlington Radio Control Modellers (BRCM) club will be holding a Warbirds rally the weekend of July 24th and 25th.  This is the first time the club has held an event over two days and it is hoped that this format will help make this a social occasion as well as a flying event.  The club runs a number of successful events throughout the year, such as the Fathers Day Scale Rally and the Frost Fly, and hopes that this becomes a yearly event for Warbird fans.

The event will be held at the BRCM field on King Road in Burlington and overnight camping will be allowed on the site from Friday morning until Sunday evening. Any participants requiring additional accommodation on Sunday evening should contact the organizers to see what arrangements can be made.

The event is open to all eras of military aircraft including helicopters and jets.  Flying will take place from 9:00am to 5:00pm each day with demonstrations and a showcase to held at noon each day.  The showcase will be out on the main runway and will give spectators an opportunity to talk to the pilots and ask questions.  There will be a barbeque and soft drinks available for purchase each day.  There are also numerous restaurants and coffee shops within a short distance of the field.  Saturday evening entertainment is being planned.

There will be a limit of five aircraft in the air at any one time and a spotter will be assigned to each flight station.  All transmitters except 2.4Ghz must be impounded upon arrival to the flying field.  A frequency peg will be assigned to each pilot prior to each flight and retrieved once that particular flight is completed.  All pegs must be returned to the organizers at the end of the event.

A pre registration form is available on-line.  Registration packages will be available at the time of the event and will include a registration form with pilot and aircraft information, a safety checklist, field rules and etiquette, a Warbirds patch and local tourist information.

BRCM staff will be available on site the entire weekend, look out for the blue shirts and black caps.

About Burlington Radio Control Modellers Club

Burlington Radio Control Modellers (BRCM) is a MAAC sanctioned club consisting of approximately 150 members.  The club operates two flying fields within the city limits of Burlington.  Bronte Provincial Park in the east end of the city consists of a grass runway and is most suited for electric and smaller nitro/gas (up to .60 size aircraft) and helicopters.  The second field is located at Bayview Park at the west end of the city (Aldershot).  Bayview Park is a multi use park run by the City of Burlington; however the flying site is for the exclusive use of BRCM members and invited guests.  This policy is strictly adhered to so as to maintain our MAAC insurance coverage.  This field is suitable for just about any size airplane.  There is a 300 X 40 ft paved runway with ample space on either side for grass field operations.  This field also includes a helicopter training pad, a control line circle, a club house and a storage unit , and a semi-permanent sun shelter.  Both fields are maintained by the club and are kept in pristine condition, grass is kept short for those who prefer grass field operations and there is sufficient run off at the ends of the paved runway to facilitate large scale aircraft and jets.

BRCM hosts a number of events during the year at both fields.  New Years Day Frost Fly(Bayview), Fathers Day Scale Rally(Bayview), Canada Day Fun Fly and BBQ(Bronte), Quad Club Fun Fly(Bayview/Bronte), and a Corn Roast Fun Fly in late August to rap up the season.  The MAAC safety code serves as a basis for the field rules.  Field etiquette has been developed over the several decades of operation of the club and serves the club well.
